Environment Champion, The Hartford

As Environmental Champion at The Hartford, Jay Bruns is responsible for The Hartford’s approach on the environment. The Hartford has reduced its greenhouse gas emissions by 57% since 2007, substantially reduced paper usage, and offers environmentally friendly insurance products. Jay positioned The Hartford for inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index since 2012, as a Carbon Disclosure Project "Leader"​since 2008, and as recipient of U.S. EPA "Climate Leadership"​awards in 2014 and 2015. Prior, Jay was Vice President for Public Policy, with responsibility for The Harford’s government relationships in 11 states, and, earlier, for The Hartford's approach on federal issues such as terrorism risk insurance.

 Prior to joining The Hartford, Jay was an American diplomat. He served, among other roles, as U.S. Special Negotiator for Conflict Diamonds, as Charge’ d’Affaires (acting ambassador) in Norway, and as U.S. Consul General in Vancouver, Canada.  He also served in Japan, Trinidad and Tobago and Germany, as well as in the National Security Council in the White House.

 

Jay has a B.A. from Colorado College and a Masters from George Washington University. He also attended the National War College as well as the University of Copenhagen.
