NYPH17: Towards Market Transformation

Passive House is the internationally-recognized standard for building energy efficiency – the result of decades of scientific inquiry and innovative design practices. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams have both recently called for Passive House Standards to be integrated into the building code of NYC, in an effort to radically reduce greenhouse gas emissions from our city. This is a global movement: Brussels, Dublin, Vancouver, Oslo, and dozens of others have taken similar steps to confront global climate change and improve our built environment. Our conference is the fastest-growing showcase of the Passive House standards in North America, featuring not only lectures and workshops by leading Passive House practitioners, but also leaders in the fields of energy efficiency, architecture, engineering, and sustainability. This year’s conference recognizes the challenges facing energy efficient and environmentally responsible buildings, and calls on practitioners of every kind to come together to maintain our momentum. Our goal is as ambitious as it is necessary: where federal agencies will not take the lead on climate change and greenhouse gas reductions, the market must.
